RESCUED DANE STORIES

A few pictures of Great Danes who have passed through our home. Many of the rescued Danes were able to find permanent, happy homes with wonderful families. A few were able to find only a few days of love and care before passing on to a place where they will not feel the pain they experienced in this life.

Clockwise from upper left:

Grant wandered into a nice family's home who could not keep him. He lived 6 years after his adoption watching over a wonderful family with 5 children.

Dolly was abandoned when she could no longer have pups. She became a companion dog, living in the lap of luxury.

Roxie was a sweet girl who came to us when her owner had health problems, and she now shares a home with an active couple.

Cho-Cho was an abused 8 month old puppy. Despite losing her right eye from repeated beatings, she has an innocent and loving personality. She is in a very happy home.

Shadow was relegated to the back yard because his owner did not know how big Great Danes grew to. After destroying the landscape, he was turned over to us for training and placement.

Raj was a former show Dane who outlived his master. Family members were unwilling to continue caring for him, so after more than a year of being shuffled around, Raj was fostered by GDRRC and placed with a wonderful family. We wish we had a picture of 200 lb.+ Rag getting into an old Citroen wagon!

Ruby struggled mightily against great odds. She was brought to a county animal shelter underweight and sick, and they insisted on neutering her and vaccinating her against distemper before she recovered her health. Her weakened condition could not take the extra stress. She spent three days with us struggling against the effects of distemper (probably from the vaccination) before losing a battle she could not win.

Fortunately, most of the stories end happily.
